Fire Reported at St. James Episcopal Church in Long Branch

Firefighters responded to a fire at St. James Episcopal Church in Long Branch on Friday afternoon.

The church, located at 300 Broadway, was surrounded by firetrucks as of 2 p.m., but no smoke or fire was visible. The fire was reportedly in the ceiling of the church and caused a "heavy smoke" condition.

Police had blocked off a section of Broadway just east of the railroad tracks and Long Branch City Hall while firefighters checked the building.
