Less Snow Than Originally Anticipated To Fall Tonight, More on the Way Thursday

Forecast now calls for 1-2 inches Wednesday night

The Long Branch-Eatontown area will not receive as much snow as originally anticipated, according to the latest National Weather Services forecast.

As much as 5 inches was expected to fall Wednesday night, but now the forecast is calling for only 1-2 inches.

The cold temperatures, wind and rain are expected to continue through Thursday.

More snow is possible after 9 p.m. on Thursday night, with another 1-3 inches expected to fall.

As of 8 p.m., there have been no announcements of delayed openings at any Long Branch-Eatontown area schools.

The following is the National Weather Service's forecast for our area:

  • Wednesday Night: Rain before 10pm, then rain and snow between 10pm and 5am, then snow after 5am. Low around 34. Windy, with a north wind 29 to 31 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Thursday Snow likely before 8am, then rain and snow likely between 8am and 10am, then a chance of rain after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Windy, with a north wind 25 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Thursday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 9pm, then snow. Low around 32. Breezy, with a north wind 21 to 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Friday: A chance of snow before 9am, then a chance of rain and snow between 9am and 11am, then a chance of rain after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Breezy, with a north wind 22 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a north wind 16 to 21 mph.
