Long Branch Man Convicted Of Murder: Cops

Jeffrey Williams, 30, was found guilty of the 2017 murder of Hector C. Mejia.

FREEHOLD, NJ - The Monmouth County prosecutor said that a Long Branch Man has been convicted of a murder from 2017 and will be facing sentencing in December.

Jeffrey Williams, 30, was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Hector C. Meija on July, 16 2017. Meija was found with a gunshot wound near the front door of his house and was pronounced dead shortly after.

According to trial testimony, Williams was with several others near Meija's house on the night of the murder. Williams and the others heard about Meija being asleep on his front porch and attempted to rob him. When Meija woke up, Williams shot Meija. Meija was found by his wife around twenty minutes later.

In addition to murder, Williams was also found guilty of reckless manslaughter, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Sentencing for Williams is scheduled to begin on December 7. Williams will be facing 20 years for the murder charge and ten years each for the other charges.
