Man Hit Crossing Rt. 35 In Eatontown

He was struck by a car at 1 p.m. Tuesday, while he was walking across Rt. 35, said police.

EATONTOWN, NJ — A 36-year-old man was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon in Eatontown, said police in that town.

At about 1 p.m. Tuesday, the man was struck by a car driven by an 80-year-old woman, said police. She was turning onto Rt. 35 north from Clinton Avenue when she struck the man, who appeared to have been walking in the crosswalk area across Rt. 35, said Lt. Edward Nelson of Eatontown Police.

"As the light turned green, she started to turn and he was in the walkway and that's when he was hit," said the police lieutenant. "She just ran right into him."

The force of the impact caused the man to fly up onto the windshield of her car, and he was then ejected off her vehicle. The man sustained facial lacerations and head trauma and he was bleeding from his head.

He did not appear to have any broken bones and was conscious when police got there. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The woman remained at the scene and currently, no tickets have been issued. Eatontown Police are trying to determine who had the right of way.

Police did not identify the man nor did they know if he is a resident of Eatontown.
