Monmouth County SPCA taking in shelter dogs from the South

EATONTOWN, NJ - Little Tonya has had a tough couple of days. But her life just got a little easier.

The sweet, mild-mannered girl was rescued by an emergency transport from South Carolina, out of Hurricane Florence's path.

Now she is safe and sound at the Monmouth County SPCA here.

"The SPCA is working closely with our shelter partners to bring up as many animals as we can before AND after the storm hits to help alleviate the influx of the inevitable stray and surrendered animals to come," according to a post on the SPCA's Facebook page. "Tonya is just one of the dozens of animals that will make their way to New Jersey to safety."

The SPCA plans to send supply and transport trucks to southern states to help the affected shelters with items they need to care for the animals. The items needed will be posted over the next few days.

"In the meantime, please consider making a monetary donation to our shelter to help care for these rescued animals, along with the animals already in our care and those to come with our regular surrenders, strays and transports," the post states. "As always, we are so thankful to our supporters for always showing their love for homeless animals."
