Monmouth University Pitcher Drafted by Boston Red Sox

Monmouth University pitcher Pat Light became the highest draft pick in Northeast Conference (NEC) history when he was selected with the 37th pick by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night in the MLB Draft.

Light, a Colts Neck native and CBA graduate, compiled an 8-3 record in 14 starts for the Hawks.

In his school record 101.1 innings of work, the junior posted a 2.60 ERA of 2.60 and struck out a NEC-best and new Monmouth University single-season record 102 batters while walking 16 batters.

Light said being drafted by the Red Sox is a "dream come true."

"It was one of my goals to be a first rounder and hard work truly paid off," Light said in a release. "Words cannot describe how happy I am."

Light joins several other Monmouth University players who are still active in professional baseball including Brad Brach (2008, 42nd round selection, San Diego Padres), Ryan Buch (2009 8th round selection, Chicago White Sox) and Brett Brach (2009, 10th round selection, Cleveland Indians).
