More Road Work Coming to Route 36 in Long Branch This Summer

Resurfacing of highway will be part of NJDOT's summer repair projects

 

A portion of Route 36 in Long Branch will be resurfaced this summer as part of the New Jersey Department of Transportation's (NJDOT) roadway repair project.

Route 36 from Oceanport Avenue near the entrance to Monmouth Park in West Long Branch to just west of Ocean Boulevard in Long Branch will be repaired over the course of the summer.

The repair project will address deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway on Routes 33, 34, 35 and 36 in Monmouth County.

The work will be started and completed on one highway at a time before crews move to the next project area. Sections of Route 34 southbound in Wall Township will be addressed first.

The following is the work schedule for this summer:

  • Route 34 sb from just south of the Route 33/34 roundabout to just north of Belmar Boulevard.
  • Route 34 sb from just south of the Route 138 interchange to just north of the Allaire Road circle.
  • Route 34 sb from just south of the Allaire Road circle to just north of the bridge over the Edgar Felix Memorial Bikeway.

Work crews will then shift to sections of Route 35, Route 33 and finish up on Route 36. The resurfacing work will take place in both directions on each highway at these locations.

  • Route 35 from south of Lakewood Road to the Atlantic Avenue circle in Wall Township.
  • Route 35 from just north of the Shark River bridge to the Sylvania Avenue split in Neptune Township and Neptune City.
  • Route 33 from west of Wardell Road in Tinton Falls through the interchange with Route 66 to W. Jumping Brook Road in Neptune Township.
  • Route 33 from just west of Route 18 to west of Union Avenue in Neptune Township.
  • Route 36 from just east of Oceanport Avenue/entrance to Monmouth Park in West Long Branch to just west of Ocean Boulevard in Long Branch.

The project will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement life span along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders and median openings, according to the NJDOT.

During the summer season the work will be performed Monday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next day, maintaining at least one travel lane in each location during peak periods.  After September 15, the contractor will be allowed to work Sunday through Saturday during off peak hours.  Access to all businesses will be maintained, according to the NJDOT.
