Patch Tells it to You Straight: Feb. 8

There's dreary weather, car fires and illegal sales of pain killers afoot, but we've got cute doggie pictures, too.

1.     Weather in a nutshell: cold, rainy, mixed precipitation over the next 24-hours according to those National Weather Service doom-and-gloomers. Chin up, though, you can do it. You survived a blizzard, remember? The sun should be back on Wednesday to continue the Jekyll and Hyde aspect of this winter followed by snow later that evening. We’ll laugh about this in July.

2.     Did you catch the ? The Wayside Fire Co. was on the scene near the Asbury Toll Plaza and no injuries were reported. Wayside Fire Captain Tom Wieczerzak shared the dramatic photo with Patch and reminds us of what our local volunteers do.

3.      Patch also reported on . Barry K. Ray, Jr., M.D., 36, of Autumn Drive was a cardiac anesthesiologist as Jersey Shore when the prosecutor’s office began investigating him for illegally selling the drug for a fee. An undercover detective met with him three times last year at Tinton Falls restaurants to make the illegal transactions, according to the prosecutor’s office.

4.     We’ve heard of moving to Florida post-retirement, but moving into your boss’s house? It works for one recent retiree: . The Belgian Malinois was a stellar member of the force; even assisting last year in saving a man whose body temperature plummeted after passing out in the snow due to intoxication. Talk about a wingman.

5.     We here at Patch are excited by Monday’s announcement that the Huffington Post has joined our family. We love what Arianna Huffington has been able to accomplish since she launched in 2005 and think the possibilities of this new relationship are endless. We also think she’s one really cool mom.
