See Video Of West Long Branch Cop Jumping Into Lake To Save Boy

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ — Video has now been provided of West Long Branch Patrolman Dave Brosonski jumping into an icy pond Monday afternoon to save an 11-year-old boy who had fallen through the ice.
The video is from Brosonski's body-worn camera; it was released by West Long Branch Police Tuesday, the day after the rescue.
At 2:41 p.m. Monday, police received a call reporting a boy, 11, fell through the ice at Franklin Lake, a small lake located right next to Shore Regional High School. The boy was alone, walking home from school, and he may have been trying to take a shortcut across the frozen pond when he fell through the ice, said police. Watch:

The video shows Brosonski, who just happens to train other police officers in ice and water rescues, racing to the scene after the 911 call is broadcast.
"You have rope on you?" he asks bystanders at the scene.

He then drops his body camera and enters the water. The boy can be heard moaning from the center of the lake.
"I'm coming," the police officer says.
The boy was alone when he fell in. He had been in the water for several minutes before a passerby saw him and called 911. The Asbury Park Press reports the boy was screaming for help and screaming that he could no longer feel his feet or his hands.
"The only thing going through my mind was, 'I'm going to get to this kid, give him the help he needed and bring him back in,'" Brosonski said, according to the Asbury Park Press.
"Parts of that lake are seven feet deep," said Lt. Brian Burton. "Where he was we estimate was four to six feet deep. The water was about up to the boy's shoulders."
The video then shows Brosonski pull the boy to land and ask if anyone has a jacket or blankets. The boy was taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution.
"The lake has been frozen over for the past several weeks. People have been out there ice skating on it, playing hockey," said Burton. "But (Monday) was of course much warmer. The temperature was in the 50s. There's still a thin layer of ice on it, though."
Brosonski did put a rope around his shoulders and two other officers on land, Patrolman Angelo Marone and Sgt. Ryan Buck, held the rope, along with volunteer firefighters, to pull him back in with the boy.
