2 Doses of Narcan Saves Woman OD'ing on Heroin in Long Valley: Cops

Police responded to West Mill Road home early Sunday morning for an unconscious female, authorities report.

A woman who overdosed on heroin at a Long Valley home over the weekend was revived thanks to the quick thinking of Washington Township Police Officers, Lt. Doug Compton said.

Sgt. Rober Oranchak, Cpl. David Marut and Officer Roger Garrison responded to a West Mill Road home for an unconscious subject at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, Compton said.

When officers arrived they found a 35-year-old woman was suffering from a drug overdose, Compton said. The officers administered a dose of Narcan, and a shor time later administered a second dose, Compton said. As a result of the life-saving actions, the woman was later able to regain consciousness and was taken to Hackettstown Regional Medical Center by the Long Valley First Aid Squad.

The is the second successful Narcan use by Washington Township Police. The first came in September when a woman on West Mill Road was found to have overdosed on heroin. Officers John Lee and Derek Heymer administered Narcan at that incident and save the woman.

Heymer, Lee, Chief Jeff Almer, Cpl. Kirk Griffin, and Det. John Wurtemberg were all recognized by the township for their life-saving efforts in the September incident.
