28 Candidates In The Running For Washington Township Superintendent
The board will meet in September to discuss next steps.

LONG VALLEY, NJ – Washington Township’s Board of Education will meet on Sept. 7 in an executive session to examine 28 candidates’ qualifications to fill the open role of superintendent.
According to reports from TAPinto, now-former superintendent Peter Turnamian has taken the same position with the Cedar Grove school district. Turnamian has served as Washington Township’s superintendent since Oct. 2021.
"I know Cedar Grove to be a tight-knit community filled with great pride and deeply dedicated to our schools," Tunamian said in a statement. "The opportunity to serve as the next superintendent for Cedar Grove Public Schools is the greatest honor of my career. I am equally humbled and inspired to join a school community steeped with rich traditions of student success where students' well-being and positive development will be the central focus of all that we do."

Washington Township hired Marybeth Kopacz as the interim superintendent for the 2024-2025 school year at a May 2024 board meeting.
The Board’s search consultant, Kathleen Helewa Educational Associates, LLC, will conduct preliminary interviews with each applicant before presenting them to the Board of Education for review.

After using information gathered from online input surveys and input sessions, the Board of Education will make all decisions on which candidates will be invited to all three rounds of interviews. This process will take place during the fall.
Candidates are comprised of current superintendents, assistant superintendents, directors of special services, principals, assistant principals, and other public educators.
