3 West Morris Central Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

The three students are eligible to win a $2,500 scholarship.

LONG VALLEY, NJ β€” Three West Morris Central High School Students have been named Semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Olivia Booth, John Chen, and Jenna Cooley have been recognized for their academic achievements by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). They are part of about 16,000 students nationwide to be named semi-finalistsβ€” less than one percent of juniors nationwide.

About 15,000 of those 16,000 students will become finalists. Scholarships will be awarded to 2,500 finalists.

Students enter into the program by taking the PSAT. The highest-scoring students in each state are selected as semifinalists. To become a finalist, high school officials must submit an application on behalf of the student, showing the student's extracurricular activities and leadership skills in addition to their academics.
