LONG VALLEY, NJ — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Long Valley area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.
Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Long Valley area:
- Long Valley Community Assistance Program: The Long Valley Community Assistance Program is led by a group of volunteers comprised of representatives from local area churches and our community members. They serve as both a food pantry and an emergency fund for local community members.
- The Seeing Eye: The Seeing Eye is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to enhance the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of blind people through the use of Seeing Eye dogs.
- In pursuit of this mission, The Seeing Eye:
- Breeds and raises puppies to become Seeing Eye dogs
- Trains Seeing Eye dogs to guide blind people
- Instructs blind people in the proper use, handling, and care of the dogs
- Conducts and supports research on canine health and development
- In pursuit of this mission, The Seeing Eye:
- Eleventh Hour Rescue: Eleventh Hour Rescue is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats on death row. Many of them are rescued at their eleventh hour—when they are scheduled to be put to death by other shelters that can no longer care for them.
- Platinum Minds: Platinum Minds is a non-profit leadership and educational development program whose aim is to provide academically motivated males from underrepresented communities with leadership and educational development skills, enabling them to achieve and serve as positive role models in their communities. Platinum Minds was founded by Yvette Long in response to rising dropout rates, particularly among young male students from underserved communities with limited resources to sustain and encourage learning.
- Smiles For Margaret: Smiles For Margaret’s purpose is to address, educate, coordinate and provide aid and relief to chronically ill children and US veterans of war.
