The sequel also features Christopher McDonald reprising his role as golf pro Shooter McGavin, and Julie Bowen returning as Virginia Venit.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township welcomed Adam Sandler to the Farmview Golf Center on Tuesday, as the comedian and actor filmed scenes for the upcoming Netflix movie "Happy Gilmore 2."
Hundreds of people from the film's cast, crew, and production staff arrived in town for the shoot, said Mayor Matt Murello. Sandler has stepped back into the titular character's golf shoes for the long-awaited sequel, and began filming in New Jersey on Sept. 9.
"Adam Sandler was great, stopping to say hello to people that had come by midday and all of the production staff was very kind in letting me hang out on the set," Murello said.

"Happy Gilmore," released in 1996, was one of Sandler's breakout roles (following 1995's "Billy Madison"). He and Tim Herlihy teamed up to write the script for the original and for this upcoming sequel.
"It ain’t over," Sandler teased on Instagram, quoting the original film. "The way I see it… we’ve only just begun."

"Happy Gilmore 2" will also feature Christopher McDonald reprising his role as villainous golf pro Shooter McGavin, and Julie Bowen is back as Gilmore's love interest, the publicist Virginia Venit.
Some new faces will appear in the sequel, including music artist Bad Bunny and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, per The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.
With such a large production, there were a lot of moving pieces — and Murello expressed his thanks to local first responders, including the Washington Township and Hackettstown police departments, and to the staff at Target for housing the equipment and personnel trucks.
"Everyone in Washington Township worked hard to pull this off with short notice," the mayor added. "I can’t wait to see the scene in the final product of 'Happy Gilmore 2.'"
Murello shared several photos on his Facebook page, which you can view below.
