After 2 Years The Youth Fishing Derby Returns To Long Valley

Local PBA 301, has been organizing the fishing derby for residents of Washington Township for the last 25 years.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Annual Fishing Derby For Washington Township and Califon Borough residents has returned.

Hosted by Washington Township Policeman’s Benevolent Association Local #301 this year's derby will take place on Sunday, June 12th from 9 a.m. to noon at Kohler's Pond on Rock Road.

The event is broken down into three age groups:

  • 5 years old and under
  • 6 to 9 years old
  • 10 to 12 years old

All participants will receive awards for the most fish, the biggest fish, the smallest fish and the most unusual catch. "Sometimes we add a few other categories depending on what they catch," said the event organizer, Cpl. Derek Heymer.

Lunch will include coffee and donuts, as well as hot dogs and beverages. Event sponsors will also provide the children with PBA t-shirts and bait for their hooks.

"I've been organizing this for the last nine years and every year rain or shine it has been a good time," Heymer added.
