Bald Eagle Spotted Having Breakfast In Long Valley

Tuesday morning was patriotic on West Mill Road.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. - The circle of life unfolded in front of some passersby in Long Valley Tuesday morning, with one of America's most majestic and notable birds.

Motorists reported seeing the bald eagle early Tuesday morning on West Mill Road, across the street from the Neighbour House between 6 and 7 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing the bird pluck a fish from the South Branch of the Raritan River, bring it back to the tree shown in the photo, and begin having breakfast.

This isn't the first bald eagle sighting in Long Valley, either. Patch reader Rolf Denton submitted a photo of the animal perched atop a tree in his yard back in December. See that one here.

While the nation’s symbol was removed from the endangered species list in 2007 thanks to a strong population rebound over the course of 50 years, bald eagles are not common to the area.
