Cooling Center Opened at Washington Township Library

Residents looking for a place to stay cool have a place to go in town.

With temperatures expected to remain high this week, the Washington Township Municipal Library has been opened as a cooling center.

The library, at 37 East Springtown Road, will be open to residents experiencing "heat-related distress," according to an announcement on the municipal website. The library will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As a backup, the Municipal Courtroom at 43 Schooley's Mountain Road will open as a cooling center if the library experiences any air conditioning issues.

Officials are predicting the heat to last through Sunday.

To combat the high heat, here are a few suggestions:

  • Drink more fluids (but less fluids with caffeine)
  • Stay indoors
  • Take a cool shower over using an electric fan
  • Wear lighter clothing
  • Check on neighbors
  • Limit outdoor activity to morning and evening hours

Washington Township also offered more tips for staying cool on the municipal website.
