Dangerous Long Valley Intersection To Get New Traffic Pattern
The intersection has "a history of motor vehicle crashes...which have resulted in injuries," according to authorities.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A high-traffic intersection with a history of car accidents is turning into a four-way stop, according to Washington Township officials.
The intersection of Naughright Road and Flocktown Road in Long Valley currently has drivers on Naughright getting the right-of-way. Come next week, that will not be the case.
Washington Township officials said that the intersection will become a four-way stop on or around July 1.

The decision was made by the Washington Township Committee, Engineer, Department of Public Works, and the Police Department in response to “a history of motor vehicle crashes at this location, several of which have resulted in injuries."
“Over the past decade, the intersection has been the site of numerous traffic incidents, prompting calls for improvements and increased safety for motorists,” a police statement read. “After reviewing crash data and completing a thorough traffic study, the Township Committee, based on the recommendation of the Township Engineer, determined that a four-way stop is necessary to reduce speeding, improve visibility, and promote safer travel for all.”

There are currently message boards displayed on both sides of the intersection to inform residents of the upcoming traffic pattern change. They will remain on Naughright Road for an extended period of time, even after the stop signs are put up, to ensure motorists’ safety.
Additionally, drivers can expect an increased police presence in the area for the foreseeable future, officials said.
“We understand this is a big change for many drivers, but we’re confident that with everyone’s patience and cooperation, this safety upgrade will lead to a smoother and safer experience for all who travel through the area,” Washington Township Police said.
