DWI Hackettstown Woman Crashes Onto Lawn, Takes Off on Foot: Police

Early Monday morning police found Elizabeth Richards, 21, on a nearby road and determined she was drunk, Lt. Douglas Compton said.

WASHINGTON TWP., N.J.– Washington Township police said they arrested a Hackettstown woman who was driving drunk and crashed her vehicle on Newburgh Road lawn early Monday morning.

Elizabeth Richards, 21, was found nearby on Hastings Drive and Cpl. Kirk Griffin came to the opinion that Richards was driving under the influence, Lt. Douglas Compton said.

Griffin responded to the intersection of Schooleys Mountain and Newburgh roads, where he saw an unoccupied blue 2007 Acura on the lawn, according to Compton.

Richards was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to report a motor vehicle crash and leaving the scene of an accident, Compton said.

The Mansfield and Independence police departments assisted.
