Eagle Scout Celebrated For Achievement In Long Valley
Chris Meehan, a member of Long Valley's Boy Scout Troop 36, was presented with a proclamation from Washington Township.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Long Valley Boy Scout Chris Meehan of Troop 36 was recognized on Sunday for achieving the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.
Washington Township Mayor Matt Murello and Committeeman Tyler Oborn joined Meehan and his family at the St. Luke Parish in Long Valley, along with New Jersey Assemblywoman Aura Dunn, R-25th Dist., Morris County Commissioner John Krickus and Morris County Sheriff James Gannon.

Murello said Monday he, Oborn and Committeeman Bill Roehrich are all Eagle Scouts.
“I tell the scouts in town all the time that there isn’t another town in New Jersey that can say a majority of the elected officials are Eagle Scouts,” Morello told Patch.

Murello presented Meehan with a proclamation from Washington Township.
According to the proclamation, Meehan began his journey in first grade and has been part of Troop 36 for the past six years. During his time as a scout, he’s achieved the Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life Scout ranks, before becoming an Eagle. Within his troop, he’s also been a Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Historian and Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow.
His Eagle Scout project entailed revamping the Old Farmers Road School playground within the township, with Meehan repainting the playground’s basketball courts and games, adding in a United States map onto the playground and installing new benches. The entire project took him more than 115 hours to complete, made possible with grant monies from the Washington Township Schools and PTA, plus donations from his family.
Meehan, the proclamation states, was an Honor Roll or High Honor Roll student at West Morris Central High School and over the summer is planninh to travel to the Boy Scouts’ Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
