Former First Aid Squad President's Death Leaves Long Valley Mourning
Tom Kimpland spent several years of his life as a public servant in Washington Township, serving in a variety of capacities.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A longtime Washington Township public servant died last weekend at the age of 81.
Tom Kimpland, Sr., was a member of the Washington Township Committee for 12 years, serving as vice mayor, police and fire commissioner, and public works commissioner. During his ten years of service with the Long Valley First Aid Squad, he also served as president, line officer, and EMT.
Kimpland first joined the Long Valley First Aid Squad in 1979, according to a statement made by Mayor Matt Murello.

"The Long Valley First Aid Squad extends our deepest sympathies to the Kimpland Family," the township first aid squad said in a Facebook post.
According to his obituary, Kimpland's love of service began when he was awarded the Eagle Scout award. He later served as a member of the National Guard from 1967 to 1970.

"He was an accomplished singer, beginning with the Five Tones and other vocal groups at Sodus Central School. He truly cherished the friendships that he made as an SCS and worked hard at keeping in touch with his entire graduating class over the years. He sang in many choirs, including the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC. He also sang with the Masterwork Chorus where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of performing at Carnegie Hall," his obituary reads.
Kimpland is survived by his former wife, Johanna, her son John Barker, and his wife Jennifer, all of Texas. Kimpland was predeceased by his former wife, Barbara, and is survived by their three children and their families: Bob Kimpland, his wife Tracy, and their children Gwendolyn, Max, and Oliva of Flanders. Tom “TR” Kimpland, Jr, his wife Kathy, and their children Thomas III and Ciana of Hackettstown. Cindy LaBar, her husband Garrett, and their children Hannah, Jack, and Benjamin of Long Valley.
According to his obituary, Kimpland loved spending time with his grandchildren. "He loved watching their sports, plays, performances and simply spending time with them, but most of all he loved to play the piano and sing with them."
On Saturday, Mar. 11, 2023, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the family will meet with friends at Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main St. in Hackettstown, followed by a celebration of life.
Interment will take place at a later date in Sodus, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be made to the Long Valley First Aid Squad.
