Freezing Rain, Winter Weather Could Hit Long Valley

A Winter Weather Advisory on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to noon may bring freezing rain, with potentially 1-3 inches of snow overnight Thursday.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Long Valley residents could be waking up to some icy weather on Wednesday morning, with the possibility of freezing rain and a glaze on the roadways.

Ahead of the storm, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory that is expected to last Wednesday morning from 7 a.m. to noon.

On Thursday night sometime after 1 a.m., snow is also likely to fall, the Weather Service predicts, with the potential to accumulate between 1 and 3 inches.

Under Wednesday's advisory, freezing rain may cause “very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges,” according to the National Weather Service.

“The hazardous conditions will impact the morning commute,” the Weather Service stated.

Drivers should prepare for the possibility of a slower ride if they’re headed on the roads and the potential of power outages.

Washington Township Police tweeted a message from the township's Office of Emergency Management about the advisory ahead of it:

New Jersey residents can dial 5-1-1 for road conditions or go to www.511nj.org/home.

The advisory covers Northern New Jersey Counties including Morris, Warren, Sussex, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex and some of Monmouth, plus sections of Pennsylvania.

Wednesday
A chance of rain or freezing rain before 11am, then a chance of rain between 11am and 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night
Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. Southwest wind around 10 mph.

Thursday
Partly sunny, with a high near 36. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night
Snow likely, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday
A chance of snow before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 31. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 17.
