Hackettstown Man Killed In Rt. 46 Crash: Police

Police say the man was driving erratically before the crash, prompting a 911 call.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ β€” A Hackettstown man was killed in a crash on Route 46 Monday afternoon, Mount Olive Corporal Marianne Wurtemberg said.

John D. Sutton III, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:30 p.m. crash. He was driving a white Dodge van erratically in the moments before the crash, resulting in a 911 call from an onlooker, Wurtemberg said.

Police say Sutton crashed his van into the back of a U.S. Postal Service box truck stopped at a traffic light. The impact of the crash caused heavy damage to Sutton's van and broke the drivers seat from its base, Wurtemberg said.
