Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Hours, Curfew In Long Valley

Washington Township's Halloween curfew will go into effect this week. Here's what you need to know.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Halloween is just around the corner, bringing discussions of ghosts and goblins, as well as the excitement of trick-or-treating and Mischief Night.

In preparation for the holiday, township officials have announced the official trick-or-treating hours for local families. This year, kids can go door-to-door for candy from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Long Valley also announced their planned curfew for minors for the days around Halloween. From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, unless they qualify for one of the exemptions outlined in the ordinance.

Parents and guardians are reminded of these safety tips:

  • Accompany young children in the neighborhood and identify your surroundings.
  • Only approach homes that have a porch light on.
  • Never enter a stranger's home or a vehicle for any treats.
  • Stay on sidewalks.
  • Use flashlights or reflective markers to enhance visibility for drivers while children are out trick-or-treating.
