Historic 43-Acre Flocktown Road Farm Preserved By County
Tract of land marks 74th property in Washington Twp.

Long Valley, N.J. – Another tract of farmable land in Long Valley has been forever preserved thanks to the Morris County Agriculture Development Board.
The 74th Washington Township agricultural property to be preserved is called The Scheller Farm, located within a half-mile of four preserved farms and adjacent to Cataract Park.
The acquisition price of $889,065 was paid for in part by $491,397 from the State Agriculture Development Committee, and $397,668 from the Morris County Open Space, Farmland, Floodplain Protection and Historic Preservation Trust Fund.

The property was owned by George Scheller Sr. and his son, George Scheller, Jr. Both passed away a few years ago. In years past, the property was owned and used as a hunting preserve and also once served as a back lot film studio for Thomas Edison.
After the county’s purchase this month, the land was then sold to the Fleming family, which operates a Christmas Tree farm and plans to use this land for the same.
