Historic Business Moving Into Long Valley
Somerset Grain and Feed has been serving Bernardsville for more than 70 years, but soon they will be packing up and moving to Long Valley.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A business that has been serving the community of Bernardsville for more than 70 years will soon make its way to Long Valley.
The Somerset Grain and Feed store will be taking over the family-owned shipping and mailing service Packaging Plus Services, located at 224 E Mill Road, shortly.
Last month, Packaging Plus Services, which had been serving the packing, shipping, freight and cargo needs of Long Valley individuals and businesses since 1991, closed down shop completely after the family decided to sell the property.

Somerset Feed and Grain will be taking over the space, following some remodeling plans. The company recently applied for a variance from the Washington Township Zoning Board, which is set to be heard on Wednesday night.
According to the records, there would be no changes to the façade or footprints of the current building structures. Somerset Feed and Grain, on the other hand, will require a use variance for the new tenant in the commercial facility.

Packaging Plus Services currently has use variance approval, and Somerset Feed and Grain intends to maintain commercial use as a feed and grain store. This use will also necessitate a use variance because it differs from the previous commercial use and is not permitted in the R-5 zone.
"The proposed use will exert no greater impact than the historic uses on the property. The use will also not impair the intent and purpose of the zoning ordinance. Washington Township does seek to promote economic development in a manner that respects existing infrastructure," zoning board documents read.
An official opening date or timeline has not been publicly released by the owner of Somerset Feed and Grain, Tom Milesnick.
Somerset Feed and Grain carries a full line of quality feed, hay, bedding, lawn, bird and pet supplies. They offer lawn and field consultation, seeding and fertilizer recommendations. The company also offers deliveries for feed, hay and bedding.
According to John Hemmings, the owner of Packaging Plus Services, despite the closing of his store, he will continue to provide printing services, with printed products either shipped to you or hand-delivered.
All other shipping needs can be met at the UPS Store in Chester, Hemmings said.
"We have been in business for over 18 years and strive to provide the best customer service. To help you transition from your current location, John and I have worked together to help you do just that," Maria Pollard, the owner of the Chester UPS, said.
