LONG VALLEY, NJ — The rain fell hard and fast across Morris County this weekend, but the amount of precipitation varied from town to town due to the nature of thunderstorm systems.

According to the National Weather Service, Long Valley had some of the highest rainfall totals in all of Morris County, receiving more than four inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

Monday's weather should be dry, with only a slight chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms, but storms are expected later in the week.

According to the National Weather Service, the yearly rainfall was below average in 20 of 21 counties as of Saturday.

On average, Long Valley got 4.23 inches of rain, but some areas got soaked with 5.54 inches.

Forecasters predict a chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursday, followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. There is a 50 percent chance of precipitation.

On Friday, there is a chance of showers, followed by a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. The likelihood of precipitation is 60 percent.

Showers are expected to continue through the weekend, with a 40 percent chance of precipitation.
