Identity Theft, Toll Evasion Reported In Long Valley: Police Blotter

Washington Township Police released the blotter for the past week.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — In recent weeks, Long Valley has seen an identity theft arrest and an investigation into a man using fake license plates in the township. The following information was compiled from Washington Township police department records.

On Jan. 19, Washington Township patrol officers stopped a vehicle on Route 46 for displaying fake license plates. During the police stop, officers found that additional fake plates were located in the vehicle.

Through additional investigation, it was determined the driver, a 33-year-old man from Englewood Cliffs, was using the plates to commit toll evasion at various locations around the state.

The driver was not identified publicly by the police.

According to the police, the driver was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. As of Monday, he was released pending an initial court appearance.

On Jan. 20, officers responded to First Hope Bank on Route 46 in response to a radio call for a fraudulent transaction taking place.

According to police, when local officers arrived on the scene, they located a 45-year-old woman from North Carolina who was attempting to flee from the bank.

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, was detained and after additional investigation, she was arrested and charged with hindering suspicion, possessing and exhibiting a false government document, identity theft, attempted theft, obstruction and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The woman was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility, where she has remained, police said.
