LONG VALLEY, NJ — Coffee aficionados usually have firm opinions on where to get their ideal cup and how they prefer it.

Boonton Coffee Co., located at 602 Main St. in Boonton, secured second place, while El Monte Coffee Roasters, situated at 45 Perry St. Ste D in Chester, took third place.
For Long Valley community members, the accolade might not be surprising. The local coffee shop was previously nominated as Business of the Year by Patch readers in 2020 and has been ranked among New Jersey’s best coffee shops by the website Best of NJ.
The Coffee Potter, which opened in 2017, was the town’s only coffee shop at the time. Founded by Dave and Geralyn Hickey, the café was created with the aim of fostering unity and connection within the local community.
In November 2022, the Hickeys announced their plans to move to Georgia to be closer to family, and the shop changed leadership for the first time.
"There are obviously a number of factors that need to be considered when making such a big decision, but none is more important than the strength of the team we have built in Long Valley and the confidence we have in turning the reins of our dream over to Mike and Leah. Mike and Leah embody our vision of community," Dave and Geralyn previously told Patch.
Over time, the café has become a central hub of the community, offering a variety of beverages, including hot and iced coffees, Italian sodas, and classic snacks like cookies and muffins. It also serves a range of other drinks, such as hot chocolate freezes, smoothies and teas.
The Coffee Potter is open daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
