Long Valley First Aid Squad Remembers Life Member Lorraine Apgar

Lorraine Apgar was a longtime resident also involved with the fire department's auxiliary. She was a bus driver in the school district.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A cornerstone and life member of Long Valley’s First Aid Squad who passed away on July 31, is being remembered for her contributions in helping to make the squad what it is now.

Long Valley First Aid Squad members are grieving Lorraine Mary Apgar, 89, who died at her most recent home in Fishersville, Virginia.

Born on Nov. 17, 1931 as Lorraine Mary St. Louis, after the passing of her mother in Massachussetts - where she had been born and where she and four siblings lived - the family moved to New Jersey when Apgar was 15, according to her obituary.

It’s where she met Arnold Apgar, who was a charter member of the Squad, the organization wrote in a Facebook post about Lorraine Apgar’s passing.

The couple ended up married for 69 years until his death in 2019, lived in Long Valley where both actively served with the First Aid Squad and she with Long Valley Fire Company No. 1’s Auxiliary.

"Arnold was a Charter Member of the Long Valley First Aid Squad," squad members explained in their post. "Lorraine and Arnold helped build the foundation on which our organization stands today."

While living in Long Valley, she was also employed as a bus driver for the school district between Sept. 1969 and Dec. 1987.

Her four children, seven of her nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive her.
