Long Valley’s Superintendent Answers COVID Policy Questions
Interim Superintendent Dr. Laura Morana updated the district's "Q&A" document with COVID scenarios that could occur during the school year.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — What could occur if a COVID outbreak happens in one class and what are student procedures for quarantining if a student's parent becomes ill?
These were two of several questions Washington Township Schools parents have asked about the 2021-2022 school year.
Dr. Laura Morana, Washington Township Schools’ interim superintendent, answered these and other questions that parents asked following the release of her “2021-2022 Opening of Schools Q&A.”

Morana had that document posted on Aug. 13 to the district's website as a guide providing an outlook into what to expect in the coming school year.
In her weekly updates, Morana has offered her first “Q&A Update” with questions she has received so far following the initial document.

Among the questions asked, a parent inquired if a COVID outbreak occurred within one classroom, would that one go virtual, while other grades stay in-person? Morana answered that per the state’s Department of Health guidelines, the district would collaborate with the local Board of Health and district’s medical inspector on a case-by-case basis.
She answered the same to a question if a student’s parent tested positive or if they were exposed to a more distant relative at a family event, who later tested positive.
Another question focused on the Delta Variant, asking if it subsides, would the policies undergo review? To this question, as well as one asking when COVID could be considered an “endemic” like a cold, Morana said the district would be guided by the Washington Township Health Department’s directives.
A parent also asked if a child’s quarantine counts as an absence. Morana said because a student receives remote instruction, per the New Jersey Department of Education, during quarantine, they would not be counted as having an absence.
