New Faces Slated To Join Long Valley Board Of Education

The highly contested election, with six vying for three seats, was a tight one, with only 200 votes separating candidates.

LONG VALLEY, NJ β€” Who will serve on the Washington Township Board of Education? While the official final votes are still being finalized, here is what we know:

Six candidates were vying for three open seats on the board.

Current board members Jason Koestenblatt, Jill Mucerino and Stephanie Wilson, whose terms all expire this December, did not file for re-election.

It's important to keep in mind that these are the unofficial results for the 2023 general election and may not include early voting, vote-by-mail, provisional ballots, or write-in votes.

The top three, per the unofficial numbers, are John R. Oldmixon (1,977), Isabel Vieira (1,909) and Jennifer Ryan (2,026).

Following them are Marisa Baker (1,759), Cynthia McConnell (1,718) and Laura Wengel (1,663).

Baker, McConnell and Wengel, running together on the "For Public Education" ticket, have since shared a message with residents.

"Although we are disheartened by the results of the election, we want to congratulate our opponents and wish them success in their upcoming roles on the WTBOE. We also want to express our sincere gratitude for all those who helped us get to this point," the trio said on Facebook.

Oldmixon, Vieira and Ryan, who ran together on the "Excellence in Education" ticket, have also shared a celebratory message with the community.

"John, Isabel and Jennifer are very grateful for everyone who helped get us across the finish line. We also want to thank the Baker, McConnell and Wengel slate for a hard-fought campaign and appreciate their efforts. We look forward to working with the school district come January," they said.

All votes must be certified by the clerk by Nov. 22.
