New Program Focuses On Fall Prevention For Long Valley Seniors
The Heads Up! Safety & Fall Prevention Workshop aims to reduce the number of calls related to senior citizen falls in Washington Township.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — A new Washington Township workshop aims to educate senior citizens about potential hazards and, hopefully, reduce 911 calls related to senior falling accidents.
The Washington Township Recreation Department will present the "Heads Up" workshop in collaboration with Rachel Ishak, community outreach specialist for the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey.
The workshop will take place on Sept. 14 at the Washington Township Senior Center, 35 East Springtown Road, Long Valley. This program will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will include a light bagged lunch, according to officials.

The Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for anyone affected by brain injury through support, advocacy, and information, as well as brain injury prevention.
The program's goal is to teach senior citizens about potential fall hazards as well as driving and pedestrian safety tips. Balance practice and strength training are important exercises for increasing confidence, building strength, and reducing the incidence of senior falls, according to BIANJ.

Registration for this workshop is required and must be completed by Sept. 9 as space is limited. To register, bring the registration form and the COVID-19 waiver form to the recreation office. Visit www.wtmorris.org to obtain the registration forms.
