Safety For In-Person Learning Updated For Long Valley Students
On the first day of school for the district, the interim superintendent provided updates to questions on masks, health screenings and more.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — Students within the Washington Township Schools celebrated their first day of in-person learning on Wednesday, with Interim Superintendent Dr. Laura Morana providing families with updates to the district’s previously-released, safety information for face-to-face classes.
Among the updates, listed below, are:
- Parents with children who tested positive for COVID-19 or have been identified a close contact of someone else who has, should call or email their school nurse right away.
- The district will notify parents if their child has been identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive for COVID within the Washington Township Schools.
- If a request for a mask exemption has been submitted to the school district, “school personnel and/or the district’s medical inspector” will review it, then notify the family.
- Students and staff who haven’t received a full course of COVID-19 vaccines, should stay quarantined, if they’ve been exposed to people in their household who tested positive for COVID-19, until that person’s test result is negative.
- However, students and staff who have taken full courses of the vaccine and don’t have any COVID-like symptoms after they’ve been around close contacts who tested positive for COVID, don’t need to quarantine. COVID testing is recommended for them between three and five days after they were exposed to the COVID-positive person or someone suspected to have a COVID diagnosis.
- Unvaccinated close contacts of someone who tested positive for COVID-19 will need to stay quarantined for up to 10 days after the last contact with that person, when the transmission rate in Long Valley is considered a “Moderate Risk.” During “High Risk” transmission times, that person will need to stay quarantined instead for 14 days.
