School Resource Officer Needed In Long Valley: How To Apply
Recently-retired law enforcement officers may apply for this job, which starts next school year.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — Recently-retired police officers who are looking for a new way to serve the community may apply to be a school resource officer in Long Valley.
The Washington Township Police Department is seeking a Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer, also known as a school resource officer, for the upcoming school year.
Applicants must meet certain requirements and be eligible for New Jersey Police Training Commission licensing.

A person is eligible to be appointed as a Special Officer Class III if he or she is under 65 years old, and has retired in good standing as a law enforcement officer within the last three years.
The position starts at $36 per hour, police said. Required hours will vary between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, not exceeding 29 hours per week, depending on school needs.

The Special Police Officer will perform school safety and security duties across the four schools in the Washington Township School District.
Other minimum qualifications are:
- Be a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of New Jersey
- Be capable of performing the functions of the position
- Possess an NJ Police Training Commission basic police officer certification or NJ State Police Academy certification
- Successfully pass a background investigation and psychological/medical evaluations
