Snow, Low Wind Chills Could Hit Long Valley

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Another round of snow has been forecast for the Long Valley area overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through 11 a.m. on Thursday, with the potential for three inches of snow possible, creating the possibility of slippery road conditions for the morning commute as roads thaw and then re-freeze.

The storm is likely begin as rain on Wednesday night before it transitions to snow overnight into Thursday, the National Weather Service forecasts.

Ahead of the snow, Washington Township’s Office of Emergency Management posted an alert that accumulations could complicate Thursday’s morning commute. The thawing and refreezing on roads, along with dipping temperatures, they wrote, may also be hazardous for drivers.

A temperature drop is expected to follow on Thursday, plunging from 24 to 7 degrees overnight into Friday, with the possibility of wind chills hovering at -3 on Thursday night.

Through Wednesday: Rain likely before 3am, then rain and snow between 3am and 4am, then snow after 4am. Low around 28. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Through Thursday Morning: Rain likely before 3am, then rain, possibly mixed with snow. Low around 27. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday: Snow, mainly before 10am. Temperature falling to around 24 by 5pm. North wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 7. Wind chill values as low as -3. North wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 21. Wind chill values as low as -4. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night: A slight chance of snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: A slight chance of snow before 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 12.
