Swearing-In Ceremony, Reorganization Meeting Set In Long Valley

The first meeting of the Washington Township Committee has been set for the new year.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township will hold its government reorganization meeting on Jan. 2.

The reorganization meeting will include the swearing-in of current Mayor Matt Murello, who defeated Deborah "Susan" Desaulniers, who ran under the Morris County Democratic Committee this past November.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the Washington Township Municipal Building, 43 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Long Valley.

Murello, a Republican who was elected to his fourth three-year term as a member of the Township Committee this past November, received 2,843 votes, according to official election results from the Morris County Clerk's office.

Desaulniers received 1,755 votes, according to the Morris County Clerk's office.

During the annual reorganization meeting, a new mayor will be selected. Washington Township's mayor is voted on by elected committee members and serves for a one-year term. Murello has served as mayor since 2019.

The agenda for the meeting is anticipated to be published before the meeting.

The meeting is open to the public and formal action is anticipated to be taken.
