Thief Possibly Targeting Cards In The Mail: Morris Co. PD
Did you send a loved one some cash inside of a card recently? Double check that they received it.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Did you send a loved one a birthday or graduation card recently, maybe with some cash inside of it? Double check that they got the card, as police think a thief might be targeting cards with cash.
The Wharton Police Department warned residents about the possible scam on Friday. A resident told police they received an envelope in the mail that was already opened; the envelope had a card and a check inside of it.
" Someone may be trying to steal cash from cards being mailed," police said, adding that anyone that receives any open letters or envelopes should contact their police department.

Experts generally discourage sending cash in the mail, because if the letter is lost or tampered with there is no way to get the lost money back. A check or money order is a safer way to send money in the mail; sending money through online services, like Zelle, Venmo or PayPal, are other, more secure methods than mailing cash.
