LONG VALLEY, NJ —Votes were still being counted late Tuesday night for Washington Township Committee, but the Republican incumbents were leading their Democratic challengers by about 200 votes.

Turnout was high this year for early voting in New Jersey and was expected to be robust across the nation on Tuesday, with a presidential race at the top of the ticket. Voters in the Garden State also have decisions to make for a new U.S. Senator, for their House representative, and in local races that affect their towns, public school districts, and counties.

In Long Valley, there were candidates for the Washington Township school board, West Morris Regional school board and Washington Township committee on the ballot. (If you're looking for the school board results, click here).

The Washington Township Committee is made up of five members, two of whom ran for re-election this year; both are Republicans, and faced two challengers from the Democratic Party.

Here are the latest unofficial results for Washington Township, according to the Morris Co. Clerk's Office.

Washington Township Committee (Vote for 2)

  • K. William Roerich (Republican - Inc.): 6,342
  • Walter Curioni (Republican): 6,128
  • John R. Holt (Democrat): 4,062
  • Brian Varela (Democrat): 4,021

All results are unofficial until certified by the county clerk.

New Jersey voters also selected a new U.S. Senator to replace Democrat Bob Menendez after his conviction on federal bribery charges, and join Sen. Cory Booker (D) in Washington.
