LONG VALLEY, NJ — With results still unofficial, Washington Township residents are getting a look at how elections for seats on two local boards of education are shaping up.

There were candidates for the Washington Township school board, West Morris Regional school board, and Washington Township committee on the ballot Tuesday. (If you're looking for the township committee results, click here).

There will be at least two new faces on the K-8 Washington Township school board, as current BOE vice president Cindy Ruggiero and member Carmine Capogrosso did not run for re-election and their terms expire in Jan. of 2025.

Robert Waskis Jr. was looking to retain his seat and there are four other candidates on the ballot: Parent and volunteer Melanie Bratton, and a trio of candidates under the "Protect Our Children" slogan.

Two of Washington Township's seats on the West Morris Regional High School District Board of Education were up for re-election, with both incumbents and one other person on the ballot.

In total, Washington Township has four seats on this nine-member board; Chester Township, Chester Borough, Mendham Township, and Mendham Borough make up the remaining five.

    All results are unofficial until certified by the county clerk.

    Turnout was high this year for early voting in New Jersey and was expected to be robust across the nation on Tuesday, with a presidential race at the top of the ticket.

    New Jersey voters will also select a new U.S. Senator to replace Democrat Bob Menendez after his conviction on federal bribery charges, and join Sen. Cory Booker (D) in Washington.
