In the wake of their devastating defeat, the women of Troy, all now widows, wait on the beach below the ravaged city to be claimed by their Greek conquerors as slaves and concubines. Though the war is over, exile and degradation lie ahead and the fates of these women, including Queen Hecuba, her daughter Cassandra, the doomed, mad prophetess, and her daughter-in-law Andromache, widow of the great Hector, are still in the balance.
"Trojan Woman" will have one showing: Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m.
"Tarzan" is based on the Disney movie and adapted for the stage, and is family friendly. The plot is largely the same as the movie; here is a synopsis from StageAgent:
A shipwreck leaves an infant orphaned on the West African shore. The helpless baby is taken under the protection of a gorilla tribe and becomes part of their family. When he eventually encounters his first human – Jane Porter, a curious young explorer – both their worlds are transformed forever.
"Tarzan" will have four showings: Thursday, June 20 at 8:00 p.m.; Friday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 22 at 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The third show is "Disenchanged!" musical parody about princesses that highlights ten of the program's actresses. It will have three showings: Thursday, June 20 at 5:00 p.m.; Friday, June 21 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 22 at 5:00 p.m. It is intended for mature audiences.
West Morris Central Theatre is fresh off a successful night at the Foxy Awards at Montclair State University. The department took home three awards for the fall production of "Mermaid," including outstanding Overall Production of a High School Play and Outstanding Production of a Dramatic Stage Adaptation of a Literary Work or Film, as well as an award for pushing the envelope for director and teacher Jeffrey Hogan.
