WT Historical Society Awards Annual Scholarship

On Tuesday evening, May 21, the Washington Township Historical Society awarded a $1,000 scholarship to local resident, Angelina Melendi.

The announcement and presentation was made by Vice-president Debra Bush. Angelini, who will be attending Seton Hall University this fall and her mother, Melissa, were present for the award which occurred during the Society's regular monthly meeting.

It was a busy day for the Melendi family who had spent the day at Angelina's older brother's graduation from Seton Hall. Angelina, who has volunteered at the Society for several years, is the Society's first homeschooled recipient. She plans a double major in secondary education and American History.

We look forward to following Angelina's successes.

WTHS has been awarding scholarships to rising college freshman who have shown an interest in history, especially local history, since the early 1990s. The Washington Township Historical Society, which was founded in 1960, is dedicated to preserving and promoting public interest in the history of Washington Township and surrounding areas. It aims to give interested people a better understanding of our community, state and nation and helps us realize the true value of our heritage. The Society encourages those people with an interest in and a desire to learn about our history to visit the Society headquarters and Museum at 6 Fairview Avenue on Sundays between 1 pm and 4 pm or to attend a monthly meeting. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month January through June and September through November.
