14 Juveniles Hospitalized With Chlorine Inhalation Symptoms In Madison
A small amount of chlorine was accidentally released into a pool, causing 14 people at Drew University to be hospitalized.
MADISON, NJ — A group of juveniles at Drew University were hospitalized early Monday afternoon after experiencing breathing problems caused by chemicals from the pool, according to Madison police.
An investigation revealed that a higher than normal concentration of liquid chlorine was accidentally released into the pool, causing symptoms of chlorine inhalation in 14 people.
The children affected ranged in age from 10 to 17 and were participating in a summer soccer program.

According to preliminary reports, some of the children were experiencing shortness of breath, difficulty speaking between breaths, nausea and general airway issues.
Further tests revealed that chlorine levels were normal, and all systems were operating as usual.

The kids were treated at the scene and then taken to Morristown Medical Center for observation, police said.
