BOE, School Community Waves Goodbye to Noonan

Superintendent's final meeting comes as schools get ready for first day.

This week the school community said goodbye to Superintendent Dr. Richard Noonan, who has been in the position for six years. He is departing to take the same position in a Philadelphia-area district in Pennsylvania.

On Monday, we gave you a sneak peak at the Hartley Dodge Memorial renovation project, which is expected to wrap up sometime in October. We also brought you photos from a scrimmage the Madison Dodgers football team partook in to get ready for the upcoming season. We also told you how a Drew Magazine article detailed how a racist caricature of Thomas Jefferson's slave who he was believed to have fathered children with was found in the university's archive.

On Tuesday, we showed you the beginning of work on the Lincoln Place improvement project. We also told you about how the Madison Community Pool saw its attendance go up this year, coinciding with the extreme temperatures during much of the summer. We also gave you an inside look at Vacchiano Farms, one of the vendors at the Madison Farmers Market. Finally, we brought you a feature on retiring Madison Area YMCA CEO Barry Kroll.

On Wednesday, we brought you video from the Board of Education meeting where the board and other members of the community honored outgoing Superintendent Dr. Richard Noonan. We also brought you a feature on Kroll's Madison Area YMCA successor as CEO, Diane Mann, who will focus on outreach and fundraising. We told you about an arrest made by the Madison Police Department after 14 bags of marijuana were found in a car. On Thursday, we kicked off our back-to-school coverage by showing you what was on the must-have list in fashion for students heading back into the halls.
