Cambodian Genocide Survivor to Speak at the Madison Library
Chanty Jong, a survivor of the genocidal regime in Cambodia, will share her experience on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., Chanty Jong will share her experience surviving Pol Pot’s genocidal regime in Cambodia and her eventual escape and political asylum in the U.S with an audience at the Madison Public Library.
Jong will relate her decade-long survival story, including her experience with Khmer Rouge policies, the “killing fields,” children’s camp, the dangerous journey to freedom via a Thai refugee camp, two years of hiding underground and her capture and daring escape. Please note that this talk contains some violent/disturbing content. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
On September 24 at 7:00 p.m., the library will show a film on the same topic. The 1984 films stars Sam Waterson and John Malkovich and tells the story of a photographer trapped in Cambodia during Pol Pot’s reign of terror.
