Three Charged Following Attempted Vehicle Theft In Madison, Police Say

According to police, three men were arrested and charged in connection with an attempted vehicle theft in Madison Borough.

MADISON, NJ — The Madison Police Department has announced the arrest of three people on criminal charges stemming from an investigation into an attempted car theft on Friday afternoon.

Jaquane Simmons, 20, Raemir Peaks, 20, and Randolph Peaks, 20, all of Irvington, New Jersey, were arrested and taken to the Madison Public Safety Complex for criminal processing.

Raemir and Randolph Peaks were charged with conspiracy to commit motor vehicle burglary, hindering apprehension, investigation, and prosecution by providing false information to a law enforcement officer, and possession of burglary tools.

Simmons was then charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary to a motor vehicle, obstructing apprehension, investigation, and prosecution by providing false information to a law enforcement officer, and possession of burglary tools, according to a complaint warrant.

Simmons has since been placed in the Morris County Correctional Facility in accordance with Criminal Justice Reform.

According to police, the three men attempted to break into cars near Madison Plaza, 300 Main Street, on Friday, Sept. 23 at 4:52 p.m. A local resident noticed them and called the police, giving the dispatcher a description of the men.

"The first Madison patrol officer arrived in under 2 minutes and located three suspects in the immediate vicinity matching the description as provided by the complainant," police said.
