Cora Jiggetts Day Declared as Resident Turns 106
'I just like to keep on living,' said Jiggetts, a member of the First Baptist Church.
A Madison resident turns 106 on Thursday and the day has been declared Cora Jiggetts Day in her honor.
Jiggetts first moved to Madison around 1930 to care for her sister, who was sick.
Jiggetts was in her 20s at the time and, after living in Madison, didn't want to move back to Chapel Hill, N.C., she said.

She joined the in the borough, worked as a housekeeper and for more than eight decades.
Jiggetts was honored during Wednesday's meeting with roses, proclamations from her governor, congressman, mayor and Borough Council, and the singing of "Happy Birthday."

Church members and leaders, friends, and past and present elected officials were on hand for the celebration.
Jiggetts, the daughter of a former slave, married twice and had a son with her first husband. She now has four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, according to the borough's proclamation.
"I just like to keep on living," Jiggetts said of turning 106.
