Downtown Alleys Get New Signs

Madison has nine new signs to mark the alleys that allow shoppers to walk from parking lots to Main Street and Waverly Place.

The lighted signs come from Seaford, Del., where they were designed by the brother of Madison Downtown Development Commission member Brad Cramer of .

Greg Cramer is a retired chemical engineer and his friend, Jerry Potter, is a mechanical engineer, Brad Cramer said.

The duo were enlisted to create the signs at a lower cost than earlier proposals, Cramer said.

"They're beautiful," he said. "It was a needed change. They were up there for a long time. They were wooden and they hadn't been maintained."

Enough signs were created to have two each for Elmer Street, Cook Plaza, Waverly Green, Waverly Lane and one for an alley by Investors Savings Bank that hasn't yet been named.
