Former NY Jet Needs A Kidney, Asks Fans For Help

"I am deeply grateful to anyone that would consider donating," said the seven-time Pro Bowler, who now lives in NJ.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A former NFL star for the New York Jets has turned to the public in his search for a new kidney.

Nick Mangold was diagnosed with a genetic disorder in 2006, the same year he debuted in pro football, that left him with chronic kidney disease.

Mangold is a retired center for the New York Jets and a seven-time Pro Bowl selection. He was originally from Ohio, but now lives in Madison and coaches football at Delbarton School in Morristown.

Now, the 41-year-old says that after a “rough summer,” he is currently undergoing dialysis and is searching for a kidney donor.

With his family unable to donate, Mangold has turned to NY Jets fans, as well as the community of his alma mater, Ohio State, for help.

“Unfortunately, I do not have any family able to donate at this time, so this is why I’m reaching out to you, our NY Jets and Ohio State communities,” Mangold wrote on X. “I am in need of a kidney donor with type-O blood…I am deeply grateful to anyone that would consider donating.”

Mangold shares this link: https://columbiasurgery.org/ki... and asks fans interested in donating to use his full name, Nicholas Mangold, and his birth date, Jan. 13, 1984, when filling out the donor form.

“I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time,” the former center wrote. “While this has been a tough stretch, I’m staying positive and focused on the path ahead. I’m looking forward to better days and getting back to full strength soon.”
