MADISON, NJ — Due to the cancellation of next week's meeting, the Madison Borough Planning Board has had to postpone the hearing on a four-story apartment building on Central Avenue until Dec. 6.

According to planning board documents, the housing proposal, which was first presented last year, includes the construction of two four-story mixed-use buildings on two properties that will be designed to look like a series of five buildings.

The two units will be placed at 5 Central Avenue and 3 Central Avenue, and will include a ground-floor shopping area, according to the applicant, 66 Main, LLC.

Residents have expressed concern about the proposed apartment structure's location in the Madison Civic Commercial Historic District, fearing that the new structures will look out of place.

The placement of the structure requires the Historic Preservation Commission to conduct a thorough review of the proposal, planning board engineer Dennis Harrington said.

Several members of the board also raised concerns that they said would be addressed at the next meeting, such as a lack of parking and building materials, which were supposed to be discussed at the next meeting.

The board has since canceled the next two scheduled meetings, which were scheduled for Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. The new meeting date has been set for Dec. 6.
